중고차를 사기위해서 인스펙션을 2곳 보러가는 날이었다.

I was going to inspect two used cars because I am planning to buy one.

기차로 가기에는 거의 2시간이나 걸려서 차를 렌트할수밖에 없었다.

Since it would take nearly two hours by train, I had no choise but to rent a car.

호주에서 처음으로 운전을 하는거라 운전 연수를 먼저 받아야된다고 생각했지만  그럴 시간은 없었다.

I though I should take some driving lessons before driving in Australia for the first time, but I didn't have enough time.

내가 생각해도 난 정말 용기 넘쳤던거 같다. 

Looking back, I think I was really brave.

우버렌트카를 이용해서 차를 빌렸고 아침에 seaford 에서 edwardtown 까지 기차를 타고 갔다.

I rented a car using the Uber app and took a train from Seaford to Edwardtown in the morning.

내가 사고 싶은 차 모델이 도요타 yaris 라서 그 모델과 비슷한 차로 렌트했다.

Since the car I want to buy is toyota yaris, I rented a similar car.

차 렌트비는 57불이었고 40불 짜리 보험을 들면 차 사고 났을 때 모든 비용을 커버해준다고 해서 보험을 들었다. 

I paid a total of 97 dollars- 57 dollars for rental fee and 40 dollars for insurance which would cover all repair costs if I got into an accident.

나를 믿을 수 없었기 때문에.. 

because I couldn't trust myself.

서류절차가 끝난 뒤에 처음으로 차를 몰고 나갔는데,주택가 내에 있는 골목이라 다행히도 차가 없었다. 

After finishing the paperwork, I drove out for the first time, luckily, there were no cars around.

좌회전을 했는데, 호주는 한국과 다르게 좌측통행이라 차선이 정말 헷갈렸다.

When I turn left, it was confusing since, unlike in Korea, cars in Australia drive on the left side of the road

반대차선으로 진입을 했다가 다시 되돌아왔다.. ㅎ 차가 없어서 다행이지.

I accidentally went into the wrong lane but quickly corrected myself.

전날 새벽 1시 넘어서까지 유튜브로 호주에서 운전하는 법에 대한 도로교통법과 좌회전, 우회전, 유턴 등등에 대해 공부를 하긴 했지만 막상 나가보니 정말 너무너무 헷갈렸다. 

Although I stayed up past 1am the previous night studying Australia driving rules like how to make left turns, rifght turns and U turns, I was still very confused when I was actually driving.

특히 내가 좌회전할 때 어디서 차가 오는지 직감적으로 판단하기가 어려웠다.

Especially when turning left, I found it hard to instinctively sence where cars would be coming from.

여기서는 좌회전이 신호 없이 give way라고 해서 오른편에서 오는 차량들을 다 양보한 뒤 내가 가는 시스템이 있다.

In Australia, there's a system called 'give way', which allows cars to turn left without a traffic light, as long as they yield to cars coming from the right. 

이게 정말 처음엔 너무나 헷갈렸고 타이밍을 제대로 못잡고, 오른편 차량이 나한테 클락션을 울리게 만들었다.

At first, this system was very confusing, and I couldn't time my turns properly, causing cars from the right to honk at me.

도심에서 고속도로 나가고 들어오는 동안 시속 제한도 여러번 바뀌어서 이걸 맞춰서 속도를 바꿔야 했다.

while driving between the city and the highway, I had to adjust my speed several times to match the different speed limits.

'Roundabouts' 라고 하는 회전 교차로가 호주에는 정말 많은데 이게 1차선인 경우도 있고 2차선인 경우도 있다.

In Australia, there are many roundabouts, which are circular intersactions. Some have one lane, while others have two lanes.

2차선 도로가 있는 roudabouts 에서 우회전 차선으로 가야하는데, 직진 또는 좌회전만 되는 차선에 있다가 우회전 해서 나와버렸다.. 우회전 차량에게 너무나 큰 민폐였다.   

In a two-lane roundabout, I was supposed to use the right lane to turn right, but I was in the lane for straight or left turns and ended up turning right, which was very inconvenient for the cars in the right lane.

헝그리잭스에서 햄버거 먹으면서 다시 한번 교통법 공부를 했는데 내가 아주 큰 잘못을 했다는걸 깨달았다. 

While eating a burger at Hungry Jack’s, I reviewed the traffic rules and realized I’d made a big mistake.

운전 자체를 공부해야했고 또한 중고차 점검하는 법도 공부해야해서 정말 머리가 터질듯한 날이었다.

It was an incredibly stressful day because I had to study both how to drive and how to inspect a used car, which made my head feel like it was going to explode

2개 차량을 봤는데, 첫 번째 차량은 2007년식, toyota yaris echo , automatic transmission 이며 총 주행거리 30만 km 였다. 가격은 4200불이었다.

I inspected two cars. The first one was a 2007 Toyota Yaris Echo with automatic transmission, and it had 300,000 kilometers on the odometer. The price was $4,200.

처음에 차 시동 켜서 주행거리를 봤을 때 30만 키로가 아닌 35만 키로가 넘었기 떄문에 여기서부터 신뢰가 안갔다. 

At first, when I turned on the car and checked the odometer, it showed over 350,000 kilometers, not 300,000. That’s when I started losing trust in the owner.

처음이라 보넷을 열어서 봐도 뭘 해야할지 감이 안왔다. 

Since it was my first inspection, I didn’t know what to do even when I opened the bonnet.

어차피 이 차는 사지 말아야겠다는 마음이 들어서 대충 보고 말았다. 

Since I decided not to buy the car anyway, I just gave it a quick look.

Give는 기본적으로 "주다"지만,

어떤 행동을 하거나 경험하는 의미로 쓰일 때는

"give something a try," "give it a shot," "give it a thought"** 처럼 표현됩니다.

• I gave it a try. (나는 시도해봤다.)
• She gave it a thought. (그녀는 그것을 생각해봤다.)

 

페이스북마켓으로 다른 차량을 검색해보면서 인스펙션 예약을 잡았다. 그리고서 다시한번 차량 점검방법을 공부했다.

I made another inspection appointment by searching for other cars on Facebook Marketplace and reviewed how to inspect a used car.

2번째 차량 주인은 인도사람이었다.

the owner of the second car was Indian.

한달 전에 오일교체와 차량 점검을 끝냈다고 당당히 점검책자를 보여주었다. 

He proudly showed me the service history book, saying that the car had been checked and the oil changed a month ago.

차의 외관, 내관 모두 너무나 멀쩡했다. 2008년식 같은 모델인데, 6800불이었다. 주행거리는 약 22만키로 였다.

The car was in good condition both inside and out. It was the same model as the previous one, but it was a 2008 model, and the odometer showed about 220,000 kilometers.

이번엔 보넷을 열어서 유튜브에서 하던대로 브레이크 오일, 엔진오일 게이지, 워셔액 등등을 확인했다.

This time, I opened the bonnet and checked the brake oil, engine oil level, washer fluid, and so on, just like I saw on YouTube.

가장 돈이 많이 꺠지는 부분이 엔진이라서 엔진 오일 상태만 집중적으로 봤다. 

I focused on checking the engine oil because it’s the most expensive part to repair.

그런데 분명 한달 전에 오일교체를 했다고 했는데, 오일이 투명한 갈색이 아니라 뚜껑을 여니 꾸덕한 검정색이었다.

However, even though he said the oil was changed a month ago, the oil was thick and black, not the transparent brown color I saw on YouTube.

내가 초보라 모르는 것일수도 있지만 일단 유튜브에서 본 색깔과는 확실히 달랐기에  메카닉으로부터 엔진오일 점검이 필수적이라고 생각했다.  

Although I’m a beginner and might not know much about it, the oil color was definitely different from what I saw on YouTube, so I thought the engine should be checked by a mechanic.

 

근처에 있는 카센터에 전화했는데 아쉽게도 그날 영업이 끝났다고 해서 점검을 받지 못했다.

I called a nearby car service center, but unfortunately, they were closing for the day, so I couldn’t get the car checked.

차 주인이 내가 전화한 카센터가 자기가 차량 점검을 받은 곳이라고 했다.

The owner said that he had his car checked at the same service center I called.

이미 서로 아는 사이라면 내가 이 차를 가져갔을때 문제가 있어도 솔직하게 말을 안해줄 수도 있지 않을까 하는 의심이 들기도 했다.

It made me feel doubtful, as I wondered if the mechanic would be honest about any problems with the car since they already knew each other.

아무튼, 결국 다음에 차점검 예약을 하고 다시 오기로 했다.

Anyway, I decided to schedule a car inspection for the future and meet the owner again later.

그렇게 나의 험난한 하루가 끝났다. 

And that’s how my exhausting day ended.
